Even the Celts knew of the curative properties of the waters. Later on, in the 13th century, Baden was one of the most important spa towns in Europe. Its popularity waned in the outgoing Middle Ages of the 15th century, only for the town to flourish again in the 19th century. Bathing cures gained mass appeal, new investment was ploughed into hotels and bathing facilities and bathing became fashionable again. Since World War I, bathing culture has been in steady decline, and around the turn of the millennium, spa tourism almost came to standstill.<\/p>\n
The current health trend has rekindled the interest in health and spa tourism. Baden is making good use of this trend \u2013 by 2019, a new bathing complex will have been built and a new spring opened.
